Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has dropped its lawsuit against FIDE President Timur Turlov. The judge of Moscow’s Tverskoy District Court announced the news.
Deputy Prosecutor General Igor Tkachev filed a motion to withdraw the lawsuit against Turlov on October 14. The decision to withdraw the lawsuit was approved the next day during a hearing on the case.
The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office filed a lawsuit seeking the confiscation of Timur Turlov’s assets on October 1. Turlov was suspected of financing Ukrainian structures opposing the Russian military. The lawsuit was filed by the Prosecutor General’s Office less than a week after Timur Turlov became FIDE President.
Timur Turlov left Russian business, renounced his Russian citizenship, and received Kazakh citizenship in 2022. Turlov donated over two million dollars to the Ukrainian Embassy in Kazakhstan for the purchase of humanitarian aid. He transferred more than $720,000 to the accounts of charitable foundations in Kazakhstan that were supporting Ukraine during the humanitarian crisis.
