Ian Nepomniachtchi commented on the game against Magnus Carlsen in the final of the Global Chess League 2026. Nepo says that he was very lucky, and notes that he hoped that Magnus would make a mistake.

The Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2026 took place from September 5 to 13 in Bengaluru, India. Ian Nepomniachtchi’s team, Ganges Grandmasters, defeated Magnus Carlsen’s Alpine APL Pipers with a score of 3-1 in the final. Nepo defeated Carlsen in 39 moves with 3 Brilliant moves in the final.
