Vincent Keymer commented on his games against Magnus Carlsen at Norway Chess 2026. Keymer says playing Magnus was special for him in the past, and notes that it’s difficult to assess Carlsen’s current performance.

“Two or three years ago it was still something special for me. But since then, I have grown myself.

It is also difficult to judge how strong Carlsen’s Classical chess is now. Because he barely plays it…

Of course, the result at Norway Chess does not reflect his true level. But perhaps he may not be as dominant as we’re used to seeing him.”

The Norway Chess 2026 took place from May 25 to June 5, at the Deichman Bjorvika public library, Oslo. Magnus and Keymer drew both Classical games and 1 Armageddon game. Carlsen defeated Vincent in one Armageddon and finished in 4th place. Keymer finished in 5th place, 2 points behind Magnus.
