Uzbekistan's No. 2“It’s a big honor for our country to have such a good player as Javokhir Sindarov. He has done a great job. He’s a national hero in our country!
We have two big events coming up. The Olympiad and the World Championship match later this year. And if we managed to pull them both off — to win the Olympiad and for Javokhir to become a World Champion… It’s going to be the chess year for Uzbekistan.
It’s going to be an unimaginable result!”
The Chess Olympiad is a prestigious national team competition. The event is held every two years and organized by FIDE. The Uzbekistan team has won the Olympiad once in 2022. The 2026 event will take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 15 to 28.
The FIDE World Championship 2026 is the crowning match to determine the World Champion. Match features defending Champion Gukesh Dommaraju and Javokhir Sindarov, the winner of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026. The location and date of the match will be announced by FIDE later this year.
