FIDE announced the opening of the bidding procedure to host the World Championship Match 2026 on April 30. The match is tentatively scheduled from November 23 to December 17.

FIDE published event details in the announcement:

  • Total event duration: up to 25 days
  • Regulations to be approved: by July 1, 2026
  • Total event budget: $8,500,000
  • Minimum prize fund: $2,500,000
  • FIDE fee: $1,100,000

Bids to host the match will be accepted until May 31, 2026. FIDE reserves the right to extend the deadline if necessary.

The FIDE World Championship 2026 is the crowning match to determine the new World Champion. Match features defending Champion Gukesh Dommaraju and Uzbek GM Javokhir Sindarov, the winner of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026.
