Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus commented on becoming the youngest 2700 in history. Erdogmus says that the basis of his achievement is a large amount of training, notes that he did not go to school for a long time, and discusses the importance of tactics in chess.

Turkey's No. 1

“The main point is I trained so hard. I also didn’t go to school for a long time. I was just doing camps. I was solving puzzles and working on chess.

I think that’s the main point. You have to work very hard. I think I was also a bit talented.

I think tactics is the most important. Because even if you don’t know the opening, with calculating the moves you can somehow find some moves and you can play at the board.

Of course, opening and endgame are also very important, but I think the most important is tactics because you need tactics in every part of the game.”

Turkish GM Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus reached the 2700 mark by defeating Veselin Topalov in a 1-1 match in April. Erdogmus became the youngest player to achieve a rating of 2700+ in history, at the age of 14 years and 10 months old. Yagiz ranks 26th in the world with a rating of 2716.5. Erdogmus is 4.2 points higher than reigning World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju.
