Peter Svidler shared his opinion on the FIDE World Championship 2026 in an interview with FIDE. Svidler believes that the match odds are 55-45 in favor of Javokhir Sindarov. Peter notes that giving Sindarov 60% to win is too much.
Peter Svidler
Russian GM and commentator“[Question: How would you rate their chances?]
For this match, 60% [for Javokhir Sindarov] is already very high. Even with the kind of a year and a half Gukesh has had, I don’t think going higher than 55 is justifiable.
He’s still a very strong player, it’s still a very specific format. So, I’m kind of willing to go 55-45 for Sindarov, but I don’t think I’m willing to go higher.”
The FIDE World Championship 2026 is the crowning match to determine the World Champion. Match features defending Champion Gukesh Dommaraju and Uzbek GM Javokhir Sindarov, the winner of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026. The match will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from November 25 to December 15.
