“I completely agree with Dvorkovich’s statement from 2022. This should be his last term, as he promised.

His promises are always excellent — now it’s time to make at least this one happen.”

Arkady Dvorkovich made the statement in September 2022 at the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix. Dvorkovich said that he planned to leave the post of FIDE President after completing his second term. Arkady called his term his last and referred to the FIDE Charter.

Arkady Dvorkovich became FIDE President in 2018 and was re-elected for a second term in 2022. In 2023, presidential term limits at FIDE, a maximum of two four-year terms, were removed. These limits were originally introduced by Dvorkovich when he was first elected in 2018.

The FIDE President election 2026 will take place at the General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from September 26 to 27. The election campaign period began on June 26 and candidates must submit their applications by the end of July. WR Chess CEO Wadim Rosenstein, Arkady Dvorkovich, and Freestyle Chess CEO Jan Henric Buettner have submitted their applications.
