Freestyle Chess CEO Jan Henric Buettner has announced his candidacy for FIDE President. Buettner says he was encouraged to run for several months, and says he decided to run after discussions with delegates from various continents.

Jan Henric Buettner is a German entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and Freestyle Chess CEO and co-founder. Buettner organized events such as the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour 2025, and the first FIDE Freestyle Chess World Championship in Chess960 format.
The FIDE President election will take place at the General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from September 26 to 27. The election campaign period begins on June 26 and candidates must submit their applications by the end of July. Arkady Dvorkovich is the current president of FIDE and has held the position since 2018.
