The nomination period for the 2026 FIDE Presidential Elections ended on July 26. Tickets for 3 of the 5 publicly announced candidates were accepted.

Accepted tickets:

  • 🇩🇪 Jan Henric Buettner for President and 🇬🇧 Malcolm Pein for Deputy President
  • 🇩🇪 Wadim Rosenstein for President and 🇨🇳 Gordon Tang for Deputy President
  • 🇰🇿 Timur Turlov for President and 🇮🇳 Viswanathan Anand for Deputy President

Former FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov announced his candidacy on July 20. Ilyumzhinov has not made a public statement regarding the reason for his absence. Arkady Dvorkovich was sanctioned by the European Union on July 24. Dvorkovich withdrew from the election that same day.

The 2026 FIDE Presidential election will take place at the General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 26 to 27. Each Member Federation represented at the General Assembly is entitled to one vote.
