The Esports World Cup is a premier annual international esports Rapid tournament held in Riyadh. American GM Hans Moke Niemann did not qualify for the 2025 edition of the tournament, and Magnus Carlsen won the event as part of Team Liquid. Magnus qualified for EWC 2026 through his 2025 win, and Hans is not qualified at the time of publication.

Hans Niemann has a Classical head-to-head score of 1-0 against Magnus Carlsen. Magnus leads Hans by 7 and 8 wins in Rapid and Blitz respectively. Niemann defeated Carlsen in a Classical game at the Sinquefield Cup 2022, which led to the cheating scandal between them.
