“The Rapid was great. I haven’t lost a single game — that’s nice. Incredibly stable. Today’s games were quite smooth. There was maybe one slight hiccup — against Wesley. He could have capitalized, but it was really difficult.

I generally think that I’m objectively a better Blitz player than Rapid. Although I did tie for second place at the World Rapid Championship in Doha. You never expect to be leading, especially being undefeated with plus four — it’s a huge score. But I generally feel quite confident in Blitz.

And obviously Wesley So is one point behind, but the rest are either two or three points behind. It makes you a bit more relaxed if you feel that margin — you only have one guy who’s chasing you. But Wesley is incredibly strong and there’s no point to relax.

I just have to continue playing my best chess.”
