“[Question: Will you play at the World Rapid and Blitz Championships?]

There were rumors that the World Championship would be in India… This year has been very exhausting for me. I love New Year’s, but I haven’t been in the New Year’s spirit for many years, and I don’t celebrate this holiday. I thought I might skip it this time.

But the tournament in Istanbul is a pretty convenient location, so I think I’ll play.”

The FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships are the most prestigious events in fast time controls. The events are held annually in the final week of the year. The 2026 event will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, from December 25 to 30. Bibisara Assaubayeva won the Blitz Championship in 2025.
