“I’m not playing in the Grand Chess Tour this year, so I need to play somewhere. I decided to play here because of Magnus. When I first heard he was playing here, I immediately agreed to the organizer’s offer.

So, I’m here only because of Magnus! I’m playing him as Black in the third round. I think it has some benefits. I don’t have any additional pressure—a draw would be a good result. We’ll see.”

The TePe Sigeman & Co 2026 takes place from May 1 to 7, in Malmo, Sweden. Uzbek GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov leads the tournament on a tiebreak after one round. Magnus Carlsen played his first game in six months, drawing against Arjun Erigaisi.
