“I’m going to tell you guys that I’m aware that the US Chess Federation is suddenly trying to solicit donations for the Olympiad team. And I find it kind of pathetic.

I find it really pathetic, actually.”

US Chess Federation announced the launch of the fundraising campaign on July 2. The federation stated that the American government does not provide financial support. USCF cited donations as the primary funding source.

The Chess Olympiad is a prestigious national team competition. The event is held every two years and organized by FIDE. The 2026 event will take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 15 to 28. Hikaru Nakamura will not play at the event.
