Twelve-year-old IM Faustino Oro is achieving norms for the grandmaster title. On December 17, the young chess player secured his second norm at the GM tournament in Argentina. Faustino has three months left to achieve his third norm and break the record for the youngest Grandmaster in history, currently held by American Abhimanyu Mishra (Became GM at the age of 12 years, 4 months, and 25 days).

Faustino earned his second Grandmaster norm at the Szmetan-Giardelli Masters 2025 in Argentina, where he scored 5.5 points in 9 rounds and finished in 4th place. He completed his first Grandmaster norm in 2024 at the “Ciudad de León” Magistral tournament.

Argentinian-born IM Faustino Oro (2503), who became an International Master in 2024, was the youngest player to achieve the IM norm. In 2024, he also managed to defeat Magnus Carlsen at the Bullet Brawl tournament. In 2025, the young talent participated in the FIDE World Chess Cup, where he placed 65th–128th.
