The mother of Kazakh GM Bibisara Assaubayeva criticized comments about the Kazakhstan Chess Federation on her social media. Liana Hakim claimed people write positive comments due to threats from the federation, and captioned her video on Threads ‘double standards’.

“You know what’s surprising: people write in the comments that ‘everything is fine’, ‘everything is wonderful’, ‘our federation helps us’, and so on…

But in DMs, they immediately write to me saying, ‘we can’t write differently because the federation punished us’, ‘threatened us with a finger’, ‘said they would terminate our contracts’, ‘take away the funding’, and so on.

This is all, of course, very sad and very unfortunate… But if you treat your children like this, please tell me, will they achieve great success when you don’t support them?”

Liana Hakim criticized the Kazakhstan Chess Federation’s funding system in April. She cited a lack of stable payments and difficulties receiving bonuses for her daughter Bibisara.

The Kazakhstan Chess Federation commented on Liana’s statements. The Federation cited the funding source, the annual budget, and the amount allocated to Assaubayeva over the past three years.

GM Bibisara Assaubayeva is Kazakhstan’s No. 1 female chess player and a three-time World Blitz Champion. Assaubayeva finished second at the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament in April.
