Uzbek GM Javokhir Sindarov commented on his draw with American GM Hikaru Nakamura in round 12 of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026. Sindarov says he sees no reason to play for a win, and notes his desire to rest.
Javokhir Sindarov
Uzbek GM“A draw today is a very good result, because I don’t see any reason to play such a long fight with Hikaru in this tournament situation. And I chose forced lines wherever possible. So, I think it was a good decision.
I need to play the last rounds very solid. If someone tries to beat me, if I have a chance, I’ll always try to push. But right now, I don’t see any reason to play to win. I just want to play solid and wait for my chances. There are still two more rounds to go, and then we’ll finish this tournament. It’s a very long tournament actually.
Today I want to take a rest and play video games. Counter-Strike? Why not!”
The FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 takes place from March 28 to April 16, at the Cap St Georges Hotel and Resort in Pegeia, Cyprus. Uzbek GM Javokhir Sindarov leads the tournament with 9/12 points.
