“I didn’t take this tournament very seriously… I think that was a big mistake, because after winning the Candidates Tournament, I probably need a little more rest.

I started playing in tournaments that are very strong… This tournament isn’t easy either. Everyone prepared well, and it’s really very hard. By the way, after my game with Pragg, I think he’ll play very well in this tournament. He really prepared well.

I spent a lot of energy on Candidates, and maybe I need a little rest. Anyway, it’s a good lesson, and I’ll try to play like my coach says — solid and not try to push too much!”

The GCT Super Chess Classic Romania 2026 takes place from May 14 to 23, at the National Bank of Romania, Bucharest. Indian GM Praggnanandhaa R defeated Uzbek GM Javokhir Sindarov in 42 moves in round 2. Sindarov holds last place in the standings after 2 rounds.
