American GM Hikaru Nakamura commented on his game against American GM Fabiano Caruana in round 8 of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026. Hikaru expresses joy at the victory, and claims he has no chance of winning the tournament.
Hikaru Nakamura
American GM“I feel pretty good. It’s quite nice to shut up all the idiots who think I can’t play chess anymore. Even if I don’t win another game, I’ve proven I belong here. Overall, I’m very happy with this game.
Frankly, speaking of playing for first place, this tournament probably ended for me in the fourth round, when I lost to Wei Yi. So, it’s hard to be super negative about everything.
I think at this stage of my career, having played so many Candidates, you never know what’s going to happen, so I just try to take it day by day.”
The FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 takes place from March 28 to April 16, at the Cap St Georges Hotel and Resort in Pegeia, Cyprus. American GM Hikaru Nakamura holds 4th place in the tournament after round 8.
