French GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave shared his thoughts on the future of his chess career. Maxime names the scenarios in which he might end his career, and discusses the possibility of becoming World Champion.
Maxime Vachier-Lagrave
French GM“I am 35 now. I plan to play until one of two things happens. Either I get tired of it, or I stop being a top-level player. As long as I play tournaments with the best chess players in the world, perform well, sometimes win, and still have ambitions to fight for the world cycle and the world champion title — why not?
Even when I fully retire, I will probably still play a couple of tournaments a year, but in a relaxed mode. For now, that’s out of the question.
Of course, the world crown would be something fantastic. And it would elevate chess even more in France.”
GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave is France’s No. 2 and World’s No. 26. Maxime is a former World Blitz Champion and a three-time French Chess Champion. MVL reached his peak Classical rating of 2819 in 2016.
