The Organizers of the world’s largest poker festival, World Series of Poker (WSOP), announced the cancellation of the 2026 WSOP Super Circuit Cyprus on March 23. The The organizers cited the reason for the cancellation as ongoing uncertainties in the region.

Poker festival“Due to the ongoing uncertainties in the region, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the WSOP super circuit Cyprus, which was scheduled to take place April 25 - May 11, 2026.
The safety of our players, staff, and partners is always our top priority. Given the current situation, we believe this is the most responsible decision at this time.
To those still traveling, we wish you a safe and enjoyable time and thank you for your continued passion for the game. We appreciate the support and understanding of the poker community and hope to bring WSOP events back to the region in the future when conditions allow.”
The FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026, which will take place in Cyprus, has not been cancelled, and will take place as scheduled. FIDE published an FAQ on the security of the tournament on the event’s official website on March 24.
The FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 will take place from March 28 to April 16 at the Cap St Georges Hotel and Resort in Pegeia. Indian GM Koneru Humpy (2535) withdrew from the tournament on March 22. Public concerns about holding the tournament appeared following the start of the US-Israel war with Iran on February 28.
