WR Chess announced that Magnus Carlsen will participate in the ASEAN E-Sports Chess Cup 2026. The event will take place on June 13 in Bangkok, Thailand.
20 players will participate in the tournament, including titled and non-titled players. Along with Magnus Carlsen, the event will feature
Fabiano Caruana,
Andrey Esipenko, and
Le Quang Liem.
The tournament will be played on computers in a Championship format with four Round-Robin groups. The Top 2 from each group advance to the 8-player Championship knockout. The event features a 10+0 time control. In case of ties for first place, the winner will be determined by Tiebreaks.
The ASEAN E-Sports Chess Cup 2026 is a new esports tournament. The event is organized by WR Chess together with Sahapol Nakvanich, President of the Thailand Chess Association and President of the ASEAN Chess Confederation. The tournament prize fund is $20,000.
