GM Daniil Dubov analyzed a game between popular streamers Ludwig and xQc in a recent video for the Team Spirit Chess channel. In his review, Dubov noted a common problem among beginner chess players and gave advice on how to correctly set traps in games.

“The guys’ issue with geometry beyond two or three squares is evident, they struggle to find long-distance moves. Apparently, the geometry of long-range moves often escapes beginner players. While people are always looking for such a move with the queen, it’s not as obvious with, for example, the bishop.

Also, you need to be more careful with traps. If two of your pawns are under attack and you noticeably pass and leave both under attack, your opponent will likely suspect something. If you want to set a trap, at least protect one of the pawns, if we’re talking about so-called ‘hustling’.”
