Early registration for the 2026 Charlotte Open closes on January 6. Final registration closes 75 minutes before round 1 on January 17.
The 2026 Charlotte Open is a 6-round classical event with a $15,000 prize-fund in 7 rating sections. Alongside the main event are the $1,000 Blitz event and a competition for students in grades 1-8. The event will take place at UNC Charlotte Marriott Hotel & Conference Center from January 17 to 19.
American GM Kayden Troff (2482) and American IM Danny Rensch (2402) will provide commentary, game analysis, and blitz sessions throughout the weekend.
The tournament is organized by the Charlotte Chess Center, which promotes over-the-board chess in North Carolina through regular tournaments and events. The center operates a dedicated playing hall and welcomes players of all levels.
