“There is a very, very big question mark whether Gukesh can stay the world champion. I’m sure Gukesh has a great future, but I’m not sure he’s going to be world champion after the next world championship match. But it doesn’t mean he’s not going to regain it again if it happens.

And his chess is still at such a level… I mean, Gukesh cannot compare himself to Carlsen. He himself has said many times that he still has a lot to learn.

I think he needs to work not only on chess but also devote a lot of time to psychological preparation. Learn not to be afraid of mistakes and continue playing.”

Indian GM Gukesh Dommaraju (2748) became the youngest-ever World Chess Champion in 2024. Gukesh defeated Chinese GM Ding Liren (2734 Inactive) with a score of 7.5-6.5 in the match. In March Gukesh finished last at the Prague International Chess Festival, held in the Czech Republic.
