Chess.com launched a new online event, the Chess Club Showdown. The tournament will take place at the end of each month. The first edition of the event takes place on September 30 at 3:00 PM UTC.

The Chess Club Showdown is a team competition where players compete for a chosen club. Users can join any of 9 clubs, including Team Liquid, Team Vitality, NAVI, BASILISK, and others.

The event takes place in two stages, the Multi-Club Arena and the Club Match. The Arena lasts two hours, and the points of the top-50 scorers in each team are counted. The top two clubs advance to the Club Match. In the match, both teams have 50 players selected by rating. All games of the event feature a Blitz 5+0 time control.

The first edition of the event features a $25,000 prize pool, and regular ones will feature $15,000. Prizes will be distributed between the winner and loser of the Club Match, top scorers, 3rd to 5th place clubs, streamers, and other bounties.

The Chess Club Showdown is the first-ever open online esports competition. All participating esports organizations are registered with the Esports World Cup.
