Daniil Dubov shared his strategy for saving energy throughout the day at the World Blitz Championship in an interview with FIDE on December 29. Daniil Dubov noted he uses draws when necessary and explained their importance.
Daniil Dubov
Russian GM“First of all, I normally have a few short draws. Secondly, it’s my 10th championship so I’m used to it.
Whenever I feel my energy is running low, I actually start trying to be super solid. When you look at it from the side — sometimes it doesn’t make a lot of sense when the guy makes a quick draw with white and then he suddenly wants to play with black. You just have to trust your instincts, and if you feel that now is not your moment, it’s actually okay to make a draw and then 10 or 20 minutes later you’ll feel better.
This has always been the strategy, this is how it works for me.”
The FIDE World Blitz Championship 2025 takes place in Doha, Qatar from December 29 to 30, featuring a €500,000 prize pool. Daniil Dubov (2672) won the FIDE World Rapid Championship 2018.
