“I have no right to feel disappointed, and, of course, he has chances. Around 45%.

At the last World Championship, they were saying Gukesh would crush Ding, and in the very first game — boom! Ding won. Then he lost, but I don’t think Sindarov will come to Geneva and win 8-2 or 7-1.

What’s disappointing is this system, where the best in the world doesn’t want to defend the title. It’s a shadow to live with a World Champion who is now world’s number 30.

Who is the best in the world? Probably Magnus, still.”

The FIDE World Championship 2026 is the crowning match to determine the World Champion. Match features defending Champion Gukesh Dommaraju and Uzbek GM Javokhir Sindarov, the winner of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026. The match will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from November 25 to December 15. Gukesh is currently World’s No. 27 in the live rating.
