Anish Giri commented on his game against Samuel Sevian in round 3 of the GCT Sinquefield Cup 2026. Giri notes that the game was difficult, and notes a positive side of the loss.

“It was a tough game… And, to be fair, if people would not be losing such positions, I would be out of work very quickly!

So, I think, for the sake of chess, it’s okay that White won that game.

But yeah, it was tough…”

The GCT Sinquefield Cup 2026 takes place from August 10 to 20, at the Saint Louis Chess Club in Missouri, USA. Samuel Sevian defeated Anish Giri in 110 moves in round 3. On move 106, Giri made a blunder and missed Sevian’s passed Pawn. Giri’s chances of winning dropped significantly, and he resigned four moves later.
