Judit Polgar declined the offer from Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar to become the President of Hungary. Polgar explains that she isn’t ready to take on the responsibility of uniting a divided nation, and notes that the offer is a great honor for her.

At the same time, I do not feel strong enough to take on the historical responsibility of uniting a divided nation, so I cannot fulfill the invitation.
I would like to support a new, independent candidate.”
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar offered Judit Polgar the position of next president of Hungary on July 19. Magyar called Polgar a person capable of representing national unity. Peter met with Judit on July 20 to discuss the proposal.
