Magnus Carlsen commented on the statement by American GM Hans Moke Niemann that Carlsen avoids playing against Niemann. Magnus said in an interview at the TePe Sigeman & Co that he is not involved in selecting participants.

Magnus Carlsen participated in the annual TePe Sigeman & Co tournament in 2004 and 2026. Carlsen won the 2026 edition of the tournament. American GM Hans Moke Niemann won the 2022 event, playing in the tournament once. Niemann has not received new invitations to participate from the organizers, according to his statement.
