The organizers of the Total Chess World Championship Tour published details about their new Total Chess Rating system. The organizers published their list of the Top-100 Total chess players.

A formula was created for calculating the ratings. All three FIDE ratings of a player affect the calculation. Total Chess notes that the formula comes from a combination of four mathematical properties. The organizers state that this formula is the only possible one for combining three ratings.

The Total Chess Rating system predicts point calculation for game results in a way similar to FIDE’s method. The bigger the rating gap between two players, the higher the expected result for the winner.

The positions of some players in the Total Chess list differ significantly from the FIDE Classical list. The ratings of Anish Giri, Wesley So, and Javokhir Sindarov became lower by 63, 30, and 29 points respectively. Gukesh Dommaraju’s rating fell below 2700, and Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus lost 94 points.
