The European Union plans to place FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich under an asset freeze and visa ban. He is set to be included in a new sanctions package alongside other Russian public figures from sports and culture.

The EU cited Dvorkovich’s statements on Crimea and the organization of official chess events in the region as reasons for the listing. The sanctions mean he can no longer enter EU countries or access any assets held there.

Arkady Vladimirovich Dvorkovich is a Russian economist who has served as the President of FIDE since October 2018. He was re-elected for a second four-year term in August 2022.
