The FIDE Council announced the removal of all existing restrictions previously imposed on the Belarus Chess Federation. The order takes effect immediately, on July 21.

This decision was made in accordance with the International Olympic Committee’s recommendations of May 7. Belarusian players will be able to participate in FIDE competitions wearing national symbols. Belarusians will be allowed to compete in team events, including the Chess Olympiad 2026.

In May, the International Olympic Committee lifted all special restrictions on Belarusian athletes. Restrictions on the Belarus Chess Federation were imposed in February 2022 due to support for military actions on the territory of Ukraine.
