The FIDE General Assembly voted to readmit Russian and Belarusian teams to official competitions. The decision fully restores rights for youth players under national flags. Protocols for adult teams remain provisional pending final International Olympic Committee (IOC) consultation.
On December 14, delegates adopted two separate resolutions on the matter. One proposal came from the Russian Chess Federation and the other from the FIDE Council. Both referenced recent IOC guidance. This decision mandates the immediate admission of these teams to FIDE events. Youth competitions will use national symbols, while adult team events require neutral symbols until final IOC consultation concludes.
The International Olympic Committee is the governing body for the Olympic Movement. National sports federations, like FIDE, often align their policies with IOC recommendations.
