12-year-old Argentinian GM Faustino Oro finished his play at the Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026 on May 10. Faustino achieved his third required norm for the Grandmaster title.
Faustino Oro won 4 games, drew 4 times and lost once, to Russian GM Ian Nepomniachtchi. Oro’s tournament performance rating is 2601, and his FIDE rating increased by 9 points to 2528.
Faustino became the second-youngest GM in history at the age of 12 years, 6 months, and 26 days. The youngest GM, Abhimanyu Mishra, received the title two months earlier. Faustino is the 7th player to achieve the GM title at age 12.
12-year-old Argentinian IM Faustino Oro (2528) holds all records as the youngest player to reach 2500 in Classical, Rapid, and Blitz. Faustino became the youngest IM in history at the age of 10 in 2024. At the Aeroflot Open 2026 Faustino lost the decisive game to GM Aleksey Grebnev (2621) and failed to achieve his third and last norm to become the youngest GM in history.
