GM Daniil Dubov shared his thoughts on Chess.com’s Titled Tuesday tournaments in an interview on the Chess Ray YouTube channel on December 28. Dubov explained that he previously played the tournament and enjoyed it, but has now lost interest due to the increased complexity of Fair Play verification requirements. Dubov stated that he returned to playing Titled Tuesday due to contractual obligations with Team Spirit.

“I started playing Titled Tuesday again this year. Why did I quit earlier, and why did I come back? Firstly, I quit simply because it became uninteresting and even unpleasant. Before, I played them purely for fun.

But when all this began to involve endless proctoring and a bunch of absurd requirements, I stopped playing. Actually, I left back at the moment when it seemed to me that there was too much cheating. And soon after, Proctor appeared, and then I completely stopped considering it as an option.

I started playing again not because I suddenly wanted to, but because it’s part of my obligations. I’m not obligated to play every Tuesday, but my esports contract requires me to participate in some tournaments. To be honest, it’s not out of great happiness. I would prefer not to play.

Titled Tuesday doesn’t interest me financially either. Even with my results, the average expectation is about $150, maybe a little more. If I need money, I’ll find a way to earn it with that hourly rate. And in terms of enjoyment — with this Proctor, everything became completely unpleasant: a second camera, having to be at home, using your phone as a camera, control, you win a game in two minutes and just sit there, unable to do anything because your phone is occupied.”

Titled Tuesday is Chess.com’s weekly 11-round Swiss tournament for titled players, occurring every Tuesday. Russian GM Daniil Dubov (2672) has won Titled Tuesday 12 times.
