The European Chess Union has announced the creation of the European Chess Super League team event, scheduled to debut in 2027. The inaugural edition will feature a prize fund of €300,000.
Eight of Europe’s strongest chess clubs will compete in the tournament. The club slots will include the top four finishers from the European Chess Club Cup, the highest-rated club, the organizer’s team, and two ECU wild cards available to any club in Europe and worldwide. The tournament will use a Round-Robin system over 7 rounds.
The European Chess Union is an independent association for the interests of European chess, founded in 1985. ECU organizes several prestigious annual tournaments including championships for individuals, teams, Rapid & Blitz formats, and youth.
