American GM Hikaru Nakamura shared his opinion on Chess.com’s weekly Titled Tuesday tournament. Nakamura states that the event kills players’ market value, explaining that tournament organizers have no reason to create larger prize pools.

“As for the Titled Tuesday tournaments, I’ll try to stay positive as much as I can… From Chess.com’s end, it’s a brilliant maneuver: they were able to get top players to play every week for essentially pennies on the dollar, especially thanks to the tie-in with the EWC.

But on the other hand, this is very bad for players overall. Because it kills their market value and negotiating power. Organizers might say: ‘You already play online every week for a thousand bucks at best — why should we pay you more?’ It really kills players’ bargaining power.

I would say from that standpoint — it’s actually very bad.”

Titled Tuesday is Chess.com’s weekly 11-round Swiss tournament for titled players, occurring every Tuesday. Prize leaders Uzbek GM Javokhir Sindarov and Polish GM Jan-Krzysztof Duda earned $3,100 for 2026.
