German GM“What about the Olympiad this year? First of all, I’m not 100% sure I’m going to play it. Because the Top-3 German players, according to June rankings, qualify. And I still have time to ruin my rating…
I guess most likely I’ll be on the team. But we have players like Vincent Keymer — who is an absolute top German player — we have Frederik Svane and Alexander Donchenko who both played very well at the World Cup 2025.
We have a very good team, which is still more or less quite young. And I’m already the oldest one on the team…
So, we’ll see!”
The Chess Olympiad is a prestigious international tournament where national teams compete. The event is held every two years and organized by FIDE. German GM Matthias Bluebaum (2695) has participated in the Chess Olympiad 4 times: in 2016, 2018, 2022, and 2024.
