On July 22, the European Chess Union (ECU) leadership elections concluded. The elections took place at the General Assembly in Bucharest.

Incumbent ECU President Zurab Azmaiparashvili was re-elected. He received 35 votes out of 53. Candidates Lukasz Turlej and Bachar Kouatly received 11 and 7 votes respectively. Along with the ECU President, members of Zurab’s team took up other positions.

Zurab Azmaiparashvili has served as ECU President since 2014. He previously held roles as President of the Georgian Chess Federation and FIDE Vice President. Azmaiparashvili has been a Grandmaster since 1988, and has an inactive rating of 2637. Zurab won the European Individual Chess Championship in 2023.
