GM Anish Giri (2760) and WGM Sopiko Guramishvili have traveled from the Netherlands to India to attend the wedding of GM Vidit Gujrathi. The couple arrived at Mumbai International Airport in the early hours of March 30th, taking time to shop for traditional Indian attire for the celebration.
Gujrathi’s wedding with Nidhi is scheduled for March 31st in Pune, following pre-wedding ceremonies in Nashik. The rare chess-free trip for Giri—though he reportedly brought chess books—highlights the strong friendships formed within the professional chess community. The Dutch grandmaster was recognized by fans during his shopping expedition in Mumbai, where he and Guramishvili purchased traditional Indian outfits for the wedding festivities
Pune, the city where Gujrathi’s wedding will take place, will also host the upcoming FIDE Women’s Grand Prix(https://womengrandprix.fide.com/). The tournament will feature top players including Alina Kashlinskaya, Nurgyul Salimova, and Zhu Jiner, following the recently concluded WGP leg in Cyprus won by Anna Muzychuk.
