“It means a lot to me. I came here with the goal of winning the tournament. I tried my best and it paid off. So, I’m very happy!

But still, I wish there was a way to get two or three spots in the Masters next year because definitely everybody deserves it. I still think it would be great if Ivanchuk played with me in the Masters. If it could happen next year… We’ll see!”

The Tata Steel Chess Challengers 2026 took place in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands from January 17 to February 1. American GM Andy Woodward scored 9 wins and 2 draws to win the tournament with 10/13 points. In 2026, Woodward competed at the Tata Steel Challengers for the first time.
