French GM Alireza Firouzja commented on his wins in the first two rounds of Norway Chess 2026. Alireza says interesting games do not happen often, and notes his chances of winning increase with the number of pieces after the opening.
Alireza Firouzja
France's No. 1“What’s my secret? I’m just trying to play good chess. I’m getting interesting games.
It’s very hard to get interesting games these days. But at least I come out of the opening with the pieces on the board! I think that increases my chances.
In these two games, I was just lucky to get a chance. We’ll see what happens.”
The Norway Chess 2026 takes place from May 25 to June 5, at the Deichman Bjorvika public library, Oslo. Alireza Firouzja leads the tournament by 3.5 points after two rounds. Alireza defeated Magnus Carlsen and Praggnanandhaa R in rounds 1 and 2 respectively.
