French GM Alireza Firouzja played against Uzbek GM Javokhir Sindarov in a special room, lying on a bed due to an injured ankle. The game took place in round 5 of the GCT Super Chess Classic Romania 2026.

Alireza Firouzja drew with Javokhir Sindarov in 58 moves. Firouzja played the game with 95.9 accuracy, while Sindarov’s was 96.4.

British GM Tony Miles played from a massage table at the 1985 Tilburg Tournament due to a severe back injury. Four players, including Viktor Korchnoi, filed an official written complaint, noting that playing while lying down was a psychological distraction. Tony Miles finished the tournament tied for 1st place.

The GCT Super Chess Classic Romania 2026 takes place from May 14 to 23, at the National Bank of Romania, Bucharest. The event features a 90+30 time control for the first 40 moves and 30+30 for the rest of the game over single Round-Robin between 10 players.
