Uzbek GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov named the favorite to win the Candidates in a mini-interview on the ChessBase India YouTube channel. Abdusattorov says Fabiano Caruana has the best chance of winning the Candidates, and notes that Fabiano, Pragg, and Sindarov are likely to defeat Gukesh in the World Championship match.

Uzbekistan's No. 1“Pretty obvious to me. I think Fabiano has the best chance of all the other players. And then in the World Championship match, he also has a good chance — at least 60/40.
I think if Fabi wins the Candidates Tournament, he’ll gain confidence and everything else. This tournament is a huge milestone for Fabi. Once he overcomes it, I think he’ll be the clear favorite for the World Champion title.
Pragg and Javokhir would also have good chances in the match against Gukesh. Would I help Sindarov prepare for the championship match if he asked? Yes, I think so!”
The FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 will take place from March 28 to April 16, at the Cap St Georges Hotel and Resort in Pegeia, Cyprus. Uzbek GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (2751) has never qualified for the Candidates and will not participate in the 2026 event.
