“When we won in Chennai in 2022, I was 18, for example. Javokhir was 17, Nodirbek Yakubboev 20, Shamsiddin also 20. Only Jakhongir was 27.

Four years have passed since then, and our team has, on the contrary, grown. Because 18 and 22 are very different. And at 22 you’re usually stronger still. A chess player’s peak usually comes at around 24-25.

The statistics show it too. Magnus Carlsen, Garry Kasparov and others, for all the players who reached the very top, the peak mostly falls at 24-25. So now Shamsiddin and Nodirbek Yakubboev are both 24, they’re at full strength.”

Garry Kasparov became World Champion at 22 and reached his peak Classical rating of 2851 points at 31. Magnus Carlsen became Champion at 22 and reached his peak rating of 2882 points at 23. Gukesh Dommaraju became the youngest World Champion in history at the age of 18 in 2024.
